We have received many requests to offer a European Christmas Market tour and we are pleased to present this short break to Monschau, one of Europe's best kept secrets, with its 'chocolate box' appeal of narrow streets, half-timbered houses and historic old town. Monschau Christmas Market is small but beautiful, with many stalls offering delicacies such as bratwurst, mulled wine, German gingerbread, Lebkuchen, Printen or the popular 'Monschauer Dutchen'. There are also brilliant decorations, artistic crafts and interesting gift ideas. This tour takes in a number of the top European markets, including Valkenburg, Cologne and Aachen.

We disembark and transfer to Valkenburg, one of Hollands most attractive towns, here we include entry to the Christmas Market Municipal Cave. The largest, oldest and most visited underground Christmas market in Europe, you will be amazed by the beautiful setting and decor, which are in complete harmony with the countless stalls offering Christmas gifts and other luxuries. Later we cross the border into Germany and on to our resort of Monschau, for 3 nights half board accommodation at The Michel & Friends Hotel. There will be a welcome drink on arrival.
Today we head for Cologne, a city that offers one of the most memorable Christmas Markets in Europe. The aroma of baked apples, cinnamon biscuits and mulled wine will waft through the alleys and many differently themed Christmas markets will invite people to stroll, shop and explore. The larger Christmas markets are held in downtown Cologne, but Cologne's smaller Christmas markets also have plenty to offer. You can savour the unique atmosphere of this metropolis on the Rhine at this special time of year. You're sure to be enchanted!
Today we have a free day to enjoy the delights of Monschau. Our hotel is located in a beautiful position only 300 metres from the town centre, so is an ideal base from which to explore the town. Garlands, illuminated trees and fairy lights bathe the Christmas market and the romantic market square in a warm, festive glow. Musical accompaniment is provided by trumpeters and alpenhorn trios in historical costume. Beneath the towers of the castle there is an enchanting 'living' Nativity scene in a straw-thatched stable, while a musical shepherd features in the landscaped Nativity scene at St Michael's Church.
We depart Monschau and travel to Aachen, where the squares and lanes around Aachen Cathedral and the town hall are transformed into a Christmas village. Later, we continue to Rotterdam, to join our overnight crossing to Hull. (Meals not included).
