Northallerton is a busy market town and on market days both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of produce from fruit and vegetables to clothes, hardware and gifts (2.5hr stay). Later we head to Thorp Perrow Arboretum, near Bedale, one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees in the North of England, including 5 National Collections. The Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre offers fascinating flying demonstrations and the chance to meet mammals such as meerkats, wallabies, pygmy goats and Shetland sheep (2.5hr stay).
