We travel via Loch Ryan to board the afternoon Stena Line ferry to Belfast. We disembark and travel south to Mullingar for overnight half board accommodation at the Bloomfield House Hotel.
After breakfast we travel to Galway, the 2020 European Capital of Culture where we take an extended break. We continue west to the picturesque coastal town of Clifden for 4 nights half board accommodation at the Clifden Station House Hotel.
A scenic coastal and mountain day as we travel via Lough Inagh, Leenanne and onto the picturesque town of Westport where you have free time to explore. We return via Louisburgh and the mountainous landscape of the Doolough Valley.
This morning we visit the magnificent Aran Islands. We take a 40-minute crossing on the ferry from the village of Ros a' Mhil, arriving into the harbour of Kilronan from where we embark on a minibus tour with a local guide. The highlight of our tour is Dun Aengus, a 2000-year-old fort perched on the edge of a 60m cliff top (this is a strenuous, but worthwhile walk). Please note that sturdy footwear is recommended, as the path to the fort is quite steep and partly follows some uneven ground.
We begin the day with a visit to Kylemore Abbey, owned and run by the Benedictine community who have been in residence here since 1920. Boasting Ireland's largest walled garden, the Abbey also sells Kylemore Abbey pottery and award-winning chocolates handmade by the Benedictine nuns. We continue via the coast of Connemara and the harbour village of Roundstone.
Departing after breakfast we travel via the shores of Lough Corrib and the picturesque village of Cong. We continue to Carrickcarnon for our overnight half-board accommodation at the Carrickdale Hotel.
Morning transfer to Belfast for the mid-day sailing to Loch Ryan. Arriving back into the local area early evening.
