The 3 star Ayre Hotel is situated overlooking Kirkwall harbour, where the ferries to the North Isles dock. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, hairdryer and Wi-Fi. There is a lift to all floors.
The 3 star Highlander Hotel is situated right in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and you can be sure of a true Scottish welcome. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, hairdryer and Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant and well stocked bar. There is no lift but most bedrooms are on the ground and first floor.
Northlink Ferries are purpose built for the northern waters and provide a high standard of safety and comfort. You can view the ever-changing scenes and impressive coastline from the decks. Onboard facilities include comfortable lounges, self service and a la carte restaurants, shop selling snacks, gift items, and practical travel products, cinema lounge showing all the latest film releases, bars, sun decks, games room, internal telephones, disabled access throughout ship, well-appointed cabins have side by side beds, en-suite facilities with hairdryers, shaver points and air conditioning. There is a lift.
We journey north via main roads and motorways to Aberdeen where we board the NorthLink Cruise Ferry to Lerwick, Shetland. Dinner is included on board the ship and overnight accommodation is in 2 berth cabins (a small overnight bag is required for tonight only).
Arrive in Lerwick, Shetland at approximately 07.30am. Breakfast is included on board ship. We disembark for a full day tour of Shetland with a local guide. Highlights include the outstanding site of Jarlshof in the south, Scalloway Castle and museum. Lunch at leisure in Lerwick (not included) before we board the 17.30pm NorthLink Cruise ferry from Lerwick to Kirkwall, Orkney. Dinner is included on board ship. At 23.00pm we arrive in Kirkwall, leave the ship and check in to our accommodation for 2 nights bed & breakfast plus 1 dinner at the Ayre Hotel.
Meet your local guide and visit the World Heritage sites of Skara Brae, Stones of Stenness, Ring of Brodgar, plus Skaill House, Churchill Barriers, Italian Chapel and Scapa Flow. Lunch at leisure in Kirkwall (not included) and a tour of St Magnus Cathedral.
After an early breakfast we board the 11.00am NorthLink Cruise Ferry from Stromness and sail past the Old Man of Hoy and the red sandstone cliffs of St John's Head en route to the port of Scrabster. We disembark mid-morning and journey south passing Inverness to Newtonmore for overnight half board accommodation at the Highlander Hotel.
After breakfast we journey home, arriving back into the local area early evening.
