The 4 star Hallmark Mickleover Court Hotel is set in a convenient location near Derby. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, radio, hairdryer, tea making facilities and Wi-Fi. There is a heated indoor swimming pool with solarium and gym. There is a restaurant and cocktail bar. There is a lift.
We travel into the north of the Peak District National Park to Whaley Bridge, where we board the 'Judith Mary' and enjoy a 2 hour sail on the Upper Peak Forest Canal, including cream tea. Later we transfer to Derby for 2 nights half board accommodation at the Hallmark Mickleover Court Hotel.
Today we drive to Buxton then on to Bakewell, with its attractive courtyards, independent shops and confectionaries who sell the famous Bakewell 'tart'. We return to the hotel for an early dinner before making our way to picturesque Matlock Bath and the Derwent Gardens. The parade of decorated and illuminated Gondolas commences at 8pm and the climax of the Venetian Nights experience is a firework display. This is an outdoor event, please dress appropriately.
This morning we head to Newstead Abbey, a former 12th century monastic house and later home to the poet Lord Byron. Explore his private apartments, the Victorian rooms and the spectacular gardens where Japanese maples provide magnificent Autumn colour. We travel home arriving late afternoon.
