A new tour and something special for 2020, we are delighted to have secured accommodation in a charming French Chateau, situated in the heart of Savoie in the little spa town of Challes-les-Eaux. From here we can explore some of France's most stunning scenery in the beautiful alps, including the 'Capital of the Alps', Grenoble, Annecy (the Venice of the Alps), the charming old town of Chambery, cheese tasting in Beaufort and Lake Le Bouget. Our return route home takes in the Belgium city of Brugge.

The 4 star Hotel & Aparthotel Casteau Resort Mons is located in secluded woodland surroundings just outside the village of Casteau. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, radio, minibar, hairdryer, safe and Wi-Fi. Guests can make free use of the spa bath, sauna and fitness room. There is a lift.
Early morning departure to Dover for the early afternoon ferry crossing to Calais. We continue to Reims for overnight half-board accommodation at the Campanile Reims Hotel.
We continue through the Champagne region passing by the cities of Troyes, Dijon and Lyon and into the glorious scenery of the Alps of Savoie, arriving at the spa town of Challes-les-Eaux for 5 nights half board accommodation at the Chateau des Comtes de Challes. We enjoy a welcome drink from the wines of the chateau's cellars and learn a little about the history of the chateau itself.
A leisurely day today, we begin with a short drive to the charming old town of Chambery with its narrow streets, old buildings, churches, castles, monuments and not least cafes and restaurants. There are many fine shops and speciality shops. We return to our hotel for a relaxing afternoon where you can relax in the gardens and grounds, take a swim in the outdoor pool or visit the local village and enjoy the views onto the surrounding fields and mountains.
Today we explore the city of Grenoble, so often referred to as the 'Capital of the Alps'. You can see the terraces of Place Saint Andre, the old parliament building, stroll amongst the fountains of Place Grenette or simply relax in one of the pretty squares. It's a city of delights and the adventurous can even travel on the iconic cable car to enjoy super views over the rooftops of the city.
This morning we enjoy the scenery of the Savoie region as we head for the famous cheese town of Beaufort. Here, we include a visit to the Beaufortain Dairy Cooperative to learn of the process of their cheese making, and of course a little taste at the end of the visit. You can then have a wander around the quaint town of Beaufort before we return via Albertville, venue of the 1992 Winter Olympics and home to the Olympic Museum as well as the medieval quarter of Conflans.
First stop today is in Aix-les-Bains where you can enjoy a stroll along the promenade of Lake Le Bouget, with lovely views across the water to the magnificent Abbaye d'Hautecombe. After time to explore here we continue to Annecy - an idyllic location on one of the loveliest lakes in the Alps. The historic centre has shops and restaurants and there are glorious views over the surrounding mountains.
We depart and travel north via the main roads and motorways, into Belgium and to the Hotel Casteau Mons, for overnight half board accommodation.
We depart after breakfast and travel to the city of Brugge, renowned for its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. Late afternoon we make the short journey to Zeebrugge for our overnight sailing to Hull.
Hull to local area. Arrive home lunchtime.
