A new European Holiday for 2017 which takes us to the unspoilt scenery of Portugal’s Atlantic Coast. Following a relaxing cruise, this two centre tour includes stays in the stylish coastal towns of Povoa de Varzim and Estoril, each providing an excellent base from which to explore. Highlights of the tour include a visit to the charming cities of Porto and Lisbon, enjoy a visit to the Port Wine Museum (including tasting), explore the un-spoilt Lisbon Coast and have plenty of time to relax and unwind in our chosen coastal resorts.

The 3 star Hotel Tryp Leon is located in the city centre, a modern hotel with bright rooms. All bedrooms are en suite with minibar, TV and free Wi-Fi. There is a lift.
The 3 star Grande Hotel De Pova is located in the centre of Povoa De Varzim, overlooking the sea and approx. 30 minutes’ drive from Porto. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, telephone, hairdryer and air conditioning. There is a bar and restaurant. There is a lift.
The 3 star Hotel Vila Gale Estoril is a modern hotel only a short walk for Tamariz Beach. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, telephone, hairdryer and air conditioning. The hotel has a bar, restaurant, outdoor pool and gym. There is a lift.
The 4 star Hotel Silken is a contemporary hotel and has a lovely riverside location. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, telephone, hairdryer and air conditioning. Along with a restaurant the hotel has a coffee shop/café. There is a lift.
The Brittany Ferries cruise ships boast superb accommodation, setting new standards in comfort and style. All cabins have air conditioning and individual temperature control and are en suite. There is a wide range of dining available, several bars and a full programme of entertainment. Other facilities include a cinema, tourist information, Bureau de Change, swimming pool and leisure areas.
Early morning departure to Plymouth to board the late afternoon Brittany Ferry cruise ship to Santander. Accommodation is in 2 berth inside cabins (meals not included). Relax and enjoy your cruise to the North Spanish coast. (Approximately 20 hour crossing).
Early afternoon arrival in Santander we then continue to the wonderful old town of Leon, a cathedral city located on the famous Pilgrim’s route. We continue to Santiago de Compostela for our overnight stay at the Hotel Tryp.
We continue west into Portugal, visiting the beautiful old UNESCO city of Guimaraes en route. This is a special place for the Portuguese people with its well preserved historic charm in the tight network of quiet streets. We continue to Povoa de Varzim for 2 nights half board accommodation at the Grande Hotel de Povoa.
A full day at leisure in the cosmopolitan resort of Povoa de Varzim. This town is fortified by a small 18th century fort which guards the busy harbour. It has been an important fishing port for many years.
Departing from Povoa, we travel to Porto, a charming city that is the historic home of the port wine trade. It is filled with narrow alleys, steep winding streets and historic buildings. We include a visit to the Port Wine House and Museum in the famous Gaia area overlooking the River Douro. The visit will conclude with a tasting before continuing to Estoril for 3 nights half board accommodation at the Hotel Vila Gale. NB Visitors with walking difficulties may have problems strolling around the city as Porto is built on a steep hill with narrow streets and alleyways.
A full day to Lisbon. Spread across steep hillsides that overlook the River Tejo, Lisbon is a city whose legendary history stretches back over twenty centuries. See the busy Rossio Square, the Black Square and old quarter of Alfama with its narrow streets which lead up to Saint Georges Castle. Gothic cathedrals, majestic monasteries and quaint museums are all part of the colourful cityscape, and the real delights of discovery lie in wandering the narrow lanes of Lisbon’s lovely backstreets.
A leisurely day exploring the Lisbon coast around Sintra to include Cabo de Roca, Sintra and of course time in Estoril. The natural wealth and heritage of the town of Sintra and its surroundings led to this entire landscape being classified as a World Heritage area. The beautiful village, with its pleasant microclimate was the favourite location of various Portuguese kings for their palaces.
We Depart Portugal following the course of the Rive Tejo around Guarda and cross the border into Spain at Vilar Formoso, past Salamanca to Valladolid, a city linked to some of the most important figures in Spanish history and where Christopher Columbus died. Overnight half board accommodation has been arranged at the Hotel Silken Juan de Austria.
Travelling north past Palencia and into the province of Cantabria. On to Santander to board the afternoon cruise-ferry back to the UK.
