Join us on this weekend break to the iconic city of York, a Christmas shopping heaven with its eclectic mix of shops as well as wonderful Christmas markets, selling everything from local produce to traditional gifts and crafts, all accompanied by the smell of roasting chestnuts and the sound of carol singers. We also visit Castle Howard, the ancestral home of the Howard family in all its festive glory. This historic house is transformed by towering Christmas trees, roaring fires and twinkling candles at Christmas time.
The 3 star Best Western Burn Hall Hotel is a Victorian mansion house set amidst 8 acres of attractive woodland grounds. There is a restaurant and two bars. All bedrooms are en suite and nonsmoking with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, Wi-Fi. There is a lift.
We depart our local area for a late morning arrival in York where the day is free to shop and explore at leisure. Late afternoon we make the short journey to Huby, for overnight half board accommodation the Best Western Burn Hall Hotel.
We make our way to Castle Howard, set in 1000 acres of gardens and parklands. This historic house has many treasures and the dramatic interior is filled with famous collections of paintings, furniture and tapestries. If the weather is fine, the beautiful garden is also well worth exploring, as well as the six unique shops selling seasonal goods. We depart late afternoon and head back to our local area. Arrive home mid evening.
