Our destination is Dorset and the coastal resort of Poole with its large natural harbour and sandy beaches. It is a lively tourist resort with a bustling quayside and a beautiful historic old town. We explore the impressive Jurassic Coast and include a steam train journey, harbour cruise and interesting visits along the way.
The 3 star Thistle Hotel Poole is in a wonderful location on the Quayside and offers stunning views over the harbour. The Harbour View restaurant offers a range of home cooked favourites and modern European dishes then you can relax in the Anchor Bar. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer, iron & ironing board or trouser press and Wi-Fi. There is a lift.
We travel via the main roads and motorways to Poole, Dorset for 4 nights half board accommodation at the Thistle Hotel.
We start today at the Tank Museum at Bovington Camp before continuing to the 'Isle of Purbeck' peninsular and the seaside resort of Swanage. You will have time to enjoy fish & chips or a stroll along the traditional pier before we board a heritage steam train and journey through beautiful countryside, with stunning views of Corfe Castle along the way.
We take in some of the Jurassic coasts spectacular scenery this morning as we head to Lulworth Cove. Later we continue to Sculpture by the Lakes, a collection of inspirational works of art nestled in 26 acres of tranquil, landscaped gardens.
After a free morning in our home resort we take an afternoon cruise around Poole harbour, Europe's largest natural harbour. You'll get a unique view of the islands, the Dorset Lakelands and the busy harbour entrance.
We journey home with suitable stops en route. Arriving into the local area early evening.
