Climb aboard as we journey north via England's most scenic railway, taking in the famous attractions of the 72 mile stretch between Settle and Carlisle. On arrival in Carlisle you can enjoy the ambiance of this historic city before we head east into County Durham to enjoy 2 nights accommodation at the excellent Radisson Blu Hotel Durham. We include a cruise on the River Wear and to complete a great weekend we have time by the sea in the Yorkshire coastal resort of Whitby. A real treat!
The 4 star Radisson Blu Hotel Durham has a city centre, riverside location. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, tea making facilities, toiletries and Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant, gym and spa with swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. There is a lift.
We congregate at Watershed Mill in Settle for coffee before joining the mid morning train from Settle to Carlisle. Sit back and relax on the 72 mile route which takes you on a journey through the magnificent Yorkshire Dales. You will travel over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct to the side of Dentdale, through the gentle lush rolling hills of the Eden Valley before arriving at the great border city of Carlisle, where you can enjoy some free time. Later we transfer to Durham for 2 nights half board accommodation at the Radisson Blu Hotel Durham.
We transfer into Durham and include a 1 hour river cruise onboard the Prince Bishop taking in the many sites of the city from the unique perspective of the River Wear. Tea and biscuits are served on board before we disembark and enjoy some free time in this magnificent cathedral city.
Depart after breakfast and journey to the Yorkshire coast and picture postcard sea port of Whitby, dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century abbey. We continue home later in the day with a short refreshment stop in Thirsk, arriving home early evening.
