Discover Orkney's breathtaking archaeology, diverse wildlife, and stunning landscapes on this incredible journey to the Northern Isles. Nowhere else in northern Europe boasts such a remarkable concentration of extraordinary archaeological sites. From stone circles and burial mounds to a Stone Age village and Iron Age forts, traces of our early ancestors are found at every turn. We will visit Skara Brae, the best-preserved Neolithic settlement in Western Europe, the Iron Age broch village, Broch of Gurness, and the beautiful Italian Chapel. Additionally, we will explore the unique island of Hoy, known for its towering cliffs, expansive wilderness, and rich wildlife. Join us as we uncover the magic of this enchanting place.

The *** WINNOCK HOTEL in Drymen, takes centre stage on the village green. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities and Wi-Fi. There is no lift, but all rooms are located on the ground or first floor.
The *** NORSEMAN HOTEL is in the Viking town of Wick, only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. Recently refurbished it offers modern accommodation with a restaurant and bar. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, hairdryer, and Wi-Fi. There is no lift but plenty of ground floor rooms.

We journey north via main roads and motorways to Drymen for overnight half board accommodation at the Winnock Hotel.

Travel via Inverness to Wick
We continue north, via the stunning city of Inverness, and travel to Wick for 2 nights half board accommodation at the Norseman Hotel.

Caithness & John o' Groats
Today we explore Caithness, taking in views of the Castle of Mey, former royal residence of the Queen Mother, before continuing along the stunning coastline to John o’ Groats, the most northerly point of the UK mainland. There will be time to explore the village and take in the stunning scenery.

Ferry Crossing to Orkney, Guided Tour & Overnight Ferry to Shetland
After a leisurely breakfast we travel to Scrabster for our ferry to Stromness on Orkney. After disembarking we are joined by a local guide and visit the ancient settlement of Skara Brae. Discovered in 1850 and older than Stonehenge, it offers a unique insight into prehistoric life. We also include a visit to the interesting Italian Chapel, a beautiful Roman Catholic chapel in Lamb Holm which was constructed by Italian POWs during the Second World War. We continue to the Albert Hotel for a 3-course dinner with tea & coffee before boarding our ferry for the overnight crossing from Kirkwall to Lerwick on Shetland.

Guided Tour of Shetland & Overnight Ferry Crossing to Aberdeen
After breakfast on board we disembark and are joined by a local guide for the day. We visit a local jewellery workshop before exploring the Shetland Museum & Archive. We include a soup & sandwich lunch at a local hotel before continuing to the Iron Age Broch on the island of Mousa and Jarlshof, Europe’s largest archaeological site ranging from the Neolithic up to the 1600’s. Later we board our ferry for dinner and the overnight crossing from Lerwick to Aberdeen.

Return Home
After a cooked breakfast, we disembark in Aberdeen and begin our journey home, making suitable stops along the way and arriving into our local area early evening.
