We travel to the far north of Scotland, taking advantage of the longer summer days and milder weather to experience the dramatic coastline of Caithness. Visits include the stunning Castle of Mey, much loved former home to HM the Queen Mother, and a day discovering some highlights of historic Orkney. Our base is the Pentland Hotel in the charming town of Thurso, overlooking the stunning Thurso Bay and Pentland Firth, with a rich history of fishing, trade and Norse influences stretching back to the time of the Vikings. A superb tour filled with breath-taking scenery and fascinating history!

It offers attractive and comfortable accommodation with a cosy lounge bar and a spacious restaurant serving a delicious, seasonal menu. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries and Wi-Fi. There is no lift.
The **** FISHERS HOTEL is in the heart of the Victorian town of Pitlochry. It offers excellent comfort and Scottish hospitality. There is a resident’s bar serving a wide range of Gins and Malt Whisky, and the Castle restaurant serving locally sourced produce. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, telephone, tea making facilities, hairdryer, and Wi-Fi. There is a lift.

We travel via the dramatic Cairngorms, arriving in Thurso at the Pentland Hotel for 3 nights half board accommodation. A long day with an early departure and late arrival at your hotel.

Castle of Mey & Free Time in Thurso
We visit Her Majesty The Queen Mother’s beloved Castle of Mey in Caithness, kept just as it was when she was alive. Explore the Castle and Gardens before a free afternoon in Thurso.
Wednesday

Ferry to Orkney & Guided Tour
We board the morning ferry from Gill’s Bay to Orkney, for a whistlestop guided tour of the island, seeing as much as possible during this visit. You will view Scapa Flow, Ring of Brodgar, the Italian Chapel and Kirkwall (admission charges not included).

Pitlochry
We journey south enjoying the scenery of the Scottish Highlands before arriving at the Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry for our overnight half board accommodation.
Friday

Return Home
We travel home making suitable stops along the way, arriving late afternoon.
