The ancient tradition of Almabtrieb, the welcoming home of the cows as they return from the high alpine pastures is today a celebrated festival and a chance for the villagers and visitors to ‘party’. Herdsmen and villagers dress in traditional costume and the cattle are paraded through the decorated streets adorned with splendid floral head dresses, ribbons and bells. Enjoy traditional Tyrolean culture as Autumn colours reflect the impressive Alpine scenery of this magical region in Austria. We journey through the Netherlands into Germany and to the outskirts of Stuttgart for overnight half board accommodation at the Mercure Stuttgart Messe Hotel.

Travel via Ziller Valley to Mayrhofen
We make our way south into Austria, into the Ziller Valley and to Mayrhofen, one of Austria’s prettiest mountain resorts for 5 nights half board accommodation at the superb Neue Post Hotel.
Wednesday - Saturday
EXCURSIONS
- A memorable day of Austrian scenery as we travel over the famous Gerlos Alpine Road to Krimml Falls, where you can view this impressive waterfall. We continue to the medieval town of Kitzbuhel to enjoy an afternoon of relaxation and sightseeing.
- Discover Innsbruck, the capital of the region and one of Austria’s most beautiful alpine destinations, with its historical buildings, breath-taking scenery, and snow-capped mountains.
- Visit the town of Rattenberg, located on the banks of the River Inn, famous for its glass making. The town has an abundance of crystal glass shops that continue the tradition. In the afternoon, there will be an optional excursion to Hintertux, or simply relax in the hotel and enjoy some free time in your home base of Mayrhofen.
- The highlight of our trip is the amazingly colourful spectacle that is the “Almabtrieb” which takes place in Mayrhofen. Shoe tapping, thigh slapping, dancers, whip crackers and folk bands welcome the `returnees’ all along the main street. There is a farmer’s market serving traditional delicacies and countless stalls are laden with Zillertal specialities. A truly memorable occasion!
