Our Story

The Bibby family have lived
and traded in Ingleton for over 100 years

1920-1940

Various members of the Bibby Dynasty, fathers, sons, brothers & cousins began delivering fruit and vegetables from their shops around the local villages. This picture was taken outside one of the stores on High Bentham Main Street.

1950

Milk transportation began in the early 1950’s, collecting milk from local farms in Barbon, Barnoldswick and Aintree. This continued into the early 60’s, working from the depot in Ingleton Main Street at Bank Hall.

1956

Saw the introduction of Bibby’s first coach, securing our first school contract with North Yorkshire County Council. A lease was agreed for a new depot in the village at Mealbank (now home to the village Scouts Facility).

1960

Larger coaches were introduced, and the fleet size grew to 6 vehicles with private hire and advertised day excursions becoming the main stay of the business. More school contracts were obtained connecting local villages with schools in Ingleton and Settle.

1970

As we entered the 1970’s vehicles became much more reliable and advanced, allowing us to spread our wings and travel to destinations further afield. Day trips as far north as Scotland and south to London became very popular.

1980

Executive Coaches entered the market and Bibby’s purchased their first fully equipped vehicle in 1988, a brand-new DAF Plaxton with on-board toilet, TV and drinks machine. Once again this allowed us to travel even further, taking customers around the UK and now into Europe.

1990

Following the purchase of a piece of industrial land on New Road in Ingleton building work began on a brand-new development including a 3-bay garage facility, offices and drive through wash. The mid 90’s saw the firm step back into the haulage business, with the introduction of 2 animal feed wagons.

2000

With the 4 th generation of the family becoming more involved and demand for work increasing we gradually purchased more vehicles, including smaller and mid-size coaches to meet demand. In 2009 a new passenger terminal was built at our depot, allowing us to provide a much more personal and professional service for our tour departures.

2010

With a team of employees focusing solely on our holiday programme we were able to develop and include more coach holidays over the next ten years. New destinations, visits, events, and holiday packages all feature in our annual brochure. In 2012 we resumed our day excursion programme, providing a chance for customers to sit back, relax and enjoy a day out.

We move forward with enthusiasm, excited by the next chapter in our story. We remain committed to serving our local community through our school transport services, private hire, day excursions programme and wonderful holiday destinations. We are proud to take the name of Ingleton through the roads of the UK, Ireland & Europe, continuing to invest in our fleet of vehicles, maintaining the high standards for which we are recognised.

Without doubt one of the most challenging years that Bibby’s has ever faced with all holidays, day excursions and private hire cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We look to the future with a positive outlook and we are confident that coach travel will return, allowing us to continue offering our high standards of service that the Bibby name is renowned for……..to be continued!
