We journey to the magnificent 16th Century Hardwick Hall, where you can discover the fascinating story of 'Bess of Hardwick' who rose to great power and wealth in Elizabethan England. We continue to the Hallmark Mickleover Court Hotel for 4 nights half board accommodation.
We visit Chatsworth House, home to the Dukes of Devonshire and set on the banks of the River Derwent amid the landscape of 'Capability' Brown. Take in the magnificent house or explore the gardens with its impressive water cascade and fountains.
We spend the day at the National Memorial Arboretum, a memorial to our fallen heroes. It is a spiritually uplifting place which honours the fallen, recognises service and sacrifice, and fosters pride in the British Armed Forces and civilian community.
This morning we head to Ashbourne where it’s market day in the picturesque town, with its historic medieval buildings and high quality stores. Later we head to Kedleston Hall, a spectacular neo-classical mansion designed by renowned architect Robert Adam and home to an impressive collection of art, sculpture and original furniture.
After a leisurely start we return home via Chesterfield where we enjoy an extended lunch stop. The Friday market will be in full swing and we recommend a visit to the Church of St Mary & All Saints, not just to view the famous crooked spire but also its interesting interior.
